Embu MCA Sacrifices His Car to Buy Ambulance

Members of County Assembly (MCAs) are often considered a greedy lot due to their expensive benchmarking trips and vociferous debates over their salaries but one has stood out after a selfless act that has earned him praise.

Kirimari Ward MCA Morris Collo Nyaga used his Sh4.5 million car grant to purchase a fully equipped ambulance for residents of the area he represents.

Speaking in Embu town on Thursday, the MCA stressed the need for access to health facilities and revealed that the ambulance would be parked at strategic places within the town.

He further stated that he was driven by the plight of residents in informal areas who struggle to get to the hospital in case of emergencies.

"It is just six months since I was elected. I have not even purchased a new car. I had a blueprint and I want to transform it.

"I want everyone who cannot afford to hire an ambulance to access this one. It will have a designated area where it can be accessed," stated the MCA.

Residents of the area hailed his decision saying more lives will be saved due to swift medical attention.

The ambulance will have a nurse and standby drivers at all times to ensure no cases are unattended.

Nyaga further revealed that plans were underway to purchase a fire-fighting truck to deal with constant fires in the area.

Prior to the August election, Nyaga collapsed during a campaign rally after he was hit with a microphone by a supporter of his rival.

According to Narc Kenya aspirant Kenneth Muturi, the MCA was addressing supporters when a group of about 10 people, who were carrying posters of a rival, started shouting them down.

An agitated man then emerged from the crowd, snatched the microphone and hit him on his forehead.

He was rushed to Embu Children’s Hospital following the incident.
