Why Alfred Keter Should be Denied Jubilee Ticket in By-Election - EALA MP Mpuru Aburi Explains

East African Legislator Assembly (EALA) MP Mpuru Aburi on Saturday explained that ousted Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter should not be allowed to vie on a Jubilee ticket after his election was nullified.

Speaking at the burial of Buuri MP Mugambi Rindiki's father, Aburi stated that it was paramount that for anyone to be nominated by the ruling party they must have respect for the leaders.

"You must respect the party that gave you a ticket to parliament.

"Keter does not respect President Uhuru Kenyatta neither does he respect DP William Ruto so after his election was nullified it is clear he will not be given Jubilee party ticket," Aburi stated.

While nullified Keter's election on Thursday, High Court Judge George Kanyi Kimondo argued that the election was not conducted in accordance with the law hence was not free and fair.

Justice Kimondo further ordered each party in the case to pay Sh1 Million as costs.

Speaking shortly after the nullification, a defiant Keter indicated that the ruling that saw him lose the seat did not come as a surprise.

"Mimi sikushtuka sikushangaa ata kidogo (I am not shocked, I am not surprised at all)," Keter told his supporters who flocked the streets of Eldoret.

He further termed the election nullification as a continuation of attempts to suppress him due to his effort in fighting corruption.

On Thursday, Kenyans.co.ke established that the embattled Nandi Hills MP was at risk of losing the support of Jubilee Party when they hold fresh nominations in preparation for the by-election.

IEBC communication manager Andrew Limo affirmed that the electoral agency would hold fresh nominations for areas that courts have their elections nullified.

Limo further added that anyone who will be cleared by the IEBC will be allowed to vie in the by-elections even as independent candidates.

"There will be fresh nominations and anyone eligible can contest. We will work out dates as soon as we get formal documents from the courts," Limo stated.
