Ex-ICC Witness Reveals Plan to Revive Ruto's Case

A former defence witness in the ICC case against Deputy President William Ruto stated that he will go to The Hague to testify against former Journalist Walter Barasa who wants the case revived.

William Rono who was to testify in defense of DP Ruto and Joshua Sang maintained that he reads malice in the surprise decision by Barasa to surrender himself to the ICC in a bid to clear his name.

“He has all along been fighting in courts to block his extradition to the ICC and it's surprising that he comes up with such a decision," Rono stated.

"A local court had already ruled against him being taken to the ICC to stand trial for witness tampering,” he added.

Rono further affirmed that should Barasa surrender himself to the ICC, then he would be willing to go and testify against him.

“We have evidence on what Barasa did in the ICC cases and his decision to surrender is a threat which we can't take lightly,” he stated.

Rono, who is a former councilor in Eldoret alleged that a Member of Parliament from Western Kenya was misleading Barasa in an attempt to revive the ICC cases.

He also claimed that Barasa’s statement indicating he was broke and frustrated revealed that he was out to benefit financially from the ICC issue.

However, in his defense, Barasa maintained that friends have shunned him and he can't find employment adding that his decision to go to the ICC was to clear his name.

Before the ICC cases started Rono and another witness Ken Wekesa Braziz went public claiming that they had been coached by civil society groups to go and testify against the DP.
