Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu Appoints John Mututho as Advisor

Former National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) boss John Mutotho on Wednesday officially joined the Kiambu County Government on a consultancy basis.

Confirming the move, Mr Mututho told Kenyans.co.ke that he had been contracted as an advisor to assist the administration with the implementation of the Alcoholic Drinks Control Act 2018.

"Yes, I will be working with the county government for two months. It is now official, though they came to me even when they were developing the Bill.

"I'm among the very few people in Kenya who could have been consulted for this," he stated.

Governor Waititu signed the Bill into Law on Wednesday morning in a ceremony held at the county headquarters.

The bylaw will create a framework for the control of production, sale, distribution, promotion and use of alcoholic drinks and the promotion of research, treatment and rehabilitation for person’s dependent on alcoholic drinks.

The law also created a new post in Governor Waititu's cabinet for the Executive Committee member in charge of the alcoholic drinks control.

The cabinet member will further work with a Directorate to implement the measures to control alcoholic drinks in the country, especially those categorised as illicit.

Governor Waititu also commissioned the creation of a mobile application platform that will be used to advertise opportunities for Kenyan job seekers.

The developers of the App were contracted to begin the process with details of the deal such as cost, and whether advertising space would be sold and be conveyed after the deal is procedurally ratified and approved.
