Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has promised to take action against former Governor Evans Kidero and members of his administration implicated in a Sh22 Billion gap in an audit of county funds.
According to an audit report by KPMG, Dr Kidero left a Sh22.89 Billion deficit in the county accounts as unaccounted for expenditure.
The administration is also accused of having deleted files that could have shown how the payments were made.
"More than Sh21.89 billion in payments was not recorded so we cannot know who was paid, and 7,346 manual revenue collection receipt booklets were deleted from the digital system," the KPMG Associate Director of Forensics Mark Bunyi explained.

The auditor's assessment further accused the Kidero administration of leaving behind a broken system.
"We found Sh1.5 billion more pending bills when we checked individual departments, which was different from what was in the handover report. This means the liability is more," stated the Head of Risk Consulting Brian De Souza.
Mr De Souza further outlined that the Kidero government had failed to declare ownership of 115 county vehicles.
The previous regime was further accused of opening 32 bank accounts in contravention of the Public Finance Management Act.
The audit also discovered that a further Sh22.8 Billion in Pay As You Earn deductions and pension contributions was never remitted as required.
A comprehensive report is set to be officially handed over to Gov Sonko during the week.
"We shall get to the bottom of this matter. All the culprits will be brought to book," the Governor stated after the briefing.
