University Student and Father Killed by Mob Justice in Kakamega

A university student and his father were on Monday lynched by a mob in Kakamega County.

Reports indicate that the second-year student who was studying criminology was killed on accusation that they had robbed a trader of Sh30,000.

Mumias police boss Peter Kattam told reporters that the two were part of a gang of six that robbed businessman Mr Jaini Patel along Musanda- Mumias road.

He conveyed that the suspects hatched an elaborate plan using a Probox to block Mr Patel's vehicle which was travelling at Nyamila Bridge before robbing him of his money.

“They then tried to escape through Musanda shopping centre but members of the public including boda boda riders blocked the road,” explained Mr Kattam.

The gang tried to escape on foot but motorcycle riders pursued them. Four of the suspects managed to suspect.

The father and son duo was however caught up with before being beating and the irate mob them ablaze.

Earlier last year, A police officer based in Kogelo Police Station was killed by rowdy youth in Barkowino area in Siaya county.

In a report released by the police, the deceased had earlier been seen with the suspect, Caleb Omoro, who the operators wanted to lynch for allegedly stealing a motorbike from one of their colleagues.

Nonetheless, the youth did not know that the officer was tracking another burglary suspect who was Omoro's accomplice.
