Worst Hit Areas as Floods Bring Nairobi to a Standstill [PHOTOS]

Moving around Nairobi was more hectic than usual on Thursday morning after heavy rains left most sections of the city flooded.

The city's poor drainage system was exposed yet again as many were left marooned at various points across Nairobi.

The Central Business District (CBD) was one of the worst-hit areas with Moi and Kenyatta avenues both virtually flooded.

Jogoo Road was also basically flooded, with cart pullers and porters making a killing as others took their shoes off to cross the road.

Several sections of Mombasa Road looked more like rivers as well.

Vehicles in Eastleigh were trying to navigate through several heavily flooded roads causing a traffic snarl up.

Sections of Westlands were also seriously affected with several areas especially along, Waiyaki Wy, Ojijo and Parklands Roads virtually impassable for pedestrians.

It has since been confirmed by the Kenya Metrological Department that the heavy rains will extend to Monday next week.

A weekly report from the department also forecasted that Friday and Saturday would experience particularly heavy downpour.

“The rainfall is likely to be heavier (more than 30mm) on Friday and Sunday. On Monday and Tuesday, showers are likely to occur over few places in the afternoon,” it stated.
