Raila - Uhuru Deal is About 2022 - ODM Director Explains

Kenyans.co.ke has exclusively learnt that the agreement between President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is part of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party strategy for 2022.

ODM Director of Strategy Wafula Buke clarified that the pact made by the two leaders will only serve a purpose that they happened to share.

"The deal is not a merger of ODM and Jubilee it is only a unity of cooperation. These working relations will have an impact on 2022 politics.

"Some of the agenda that we share in common include national priorities of leading the nation, dealing with corruption, addressing past injustices and crime," the Director stated.

Mr Buke went on to explain that the Orange party had not given up its place as the official Opposition, rather, they had only found a way to gain power ahead of the next General Election.

"Jubilee dominance is evident and we know that. For the playing field to be levelled, one of the parties had to act normal and that is why Raila moved in to make the deal - to create a friendly Opposition.

"Take the illustration of planting a tree and waiting to see the fruits. That is what ODM has done and we will know soon enough what we have planted," Mr Buke told Kenyans.co.ke.

Commenting on co-principal Moses Wetangula's ouster motion in the Senate, Buke dismissed the Senator as a "weak player" within the Opposition.

He added that the Bungoma Senator was only re-elected because the former PM endorsed him.

The former PM on Friday revealed that he had struggled to accept and follow through with the meeting describing it as a "painful decision" he had to make.

"I had no choice but to make a painful decision to work with Uhuru in a bid to realize a unitary State," Raila stated.
