Mzee Moi Returns after Israel Hospital Visit

Former President Daniel Arap Moi jetted back into Kenya on Saturday night from Israel where he had been admitted at a Tel Aviv Hospital on Sunday last week.

A chartered plane with Moi and his entourage touched down at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) at 8 pm on Saturday night, with the former head of state proceeding to his Kabarak Gardens residence.

A statement from his office disclosed that he was doing well and had been given a clean bill of health by doctors.

"The former head of state is in high spirits and his physicians will continue observing him. He has been given a clean bill of health,” it read in part.

Moi was admitted to Ichalov Hospital where he underwent a series of checks on his knee which has reportedly been causing him discomfort for some time now.

In January 2017, Moi underwent a knee surgery at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi.

The 93-year old also took time to visit historical sites in Israel during his time there.

In his entourage was his personal physician Dr. David Silverstein and his son, Baringo Senator Gideon Moi.

Silverstein had explained that the visit was primarily meant to get a second opinion on the knee problem.

Moi’s last public appearance was on October 26, 2017 when he voted at Kabarak University Polling Station in the repeat presidential election.
