2 Choir Members Dead in Grisly Accident

2 members of the AIC Kanthitu choir lost their lives on Friday after a grisly road accident at Muliilii along the Wote-Makindu road.

The Friday night accident involved a lorry and a 14-seater matatu which had the choir members on board.

The choir members were travelling from Makindu where they had gone to record new music.

14 members of the choir were injured, with 5 of them sustaining particularly serious injuries, and were quickly taken to the Makindu Sub-County Hospital for treatment.

The two bodies were taken to Makindu Hospital Mortuary.

Confirming the incident, Makueni County Commissioner Mohammed Maalim explained that the matatu hit the stalled lorry from behind.

The accident has thrown Kanthitu village in Makueni into mourning as the choir was of a local church.

A survivor of the accident told the press that the two who died were both women who sang in the choir.

"We have lost two members of our choir, two women who sang in alto voice," Julius Kamukwa told The Nation.

Kamukwa further explained that the matatu was trying to overtake the lorry when it rammed into it.
