The Committee Seats ODM Should Lose After Removing Moses Wetangula as Senate Minority Leader

Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale stated that Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) members should lose their positions in House committees after they successfully orchestrated the removal of Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula as the Senate Minority Leader.

Addressing journalists on behalf of Ford Kenya on Tuesday, Khalwale explained that after the removal is formalised by the House Speaker, ODM ceases being part of the opposition and should, therefore, forfeit all their posts in parliamentary committees meant for minority parties.

He added that they had given instructions to members of their parliamentary group to ask the speaker make a formal ruling so to initiate the process.

"When you move you cease being a member of the opposition and whatever position you held will be taken up by the parties who have remained in the opposition which means after the ruling by Senate speaker and it becomes formal.

"The leadership of two houses changes drastically. All members of ODM who are in the leadership position by dint of being members of the minority will forfeit all of them to be occupied by ANC, Ford Kenya and Wiper and that is the law,"  he noted.

Khalwale ruled out the possibility of engaging Raila Odinga at the summit level to resolve the matter.

On its part, Wiper stated that the NASA coalition was strong with all four political parties including (ODM) holding together.

"As a Party, we do not support the purported removal of Sen. Moses Wetangula as the Senate Minority Leader. Indeed, our position is that Wetangula holds his position courtesy of a decision by the Summit leaders – Hon. Raila Odinga, Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka, Hon. Musalia Mudavadi, as well as Sen. Wetangula himself. Wiper fully supports the Summit’s position on this matter," Kalonzo stated.

He advised Siaya Senator James Orengo to reject his nomination as Senate Minority Leader.

"Orengo should decline the position of Senate minority leader. I don't want Jimmy (Orengo) to go down in history as the one who collapsed NASA," he conveyed.
