President Uhuru Kenyatta has ordered Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and Transport, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Cabinet Secretary CS James Macharia to address the drainage menace immediately.
A seemingly agitated Uhuru stated that the frequent incidents of flooding in the city that nearly brought transport to a standstill a fortnight ago have become a bother.
"Tukiona kama yale yametendeka juzi. Mvua ndiyo hiyo imenyesha. Barabara ndiyo hiyo imejaa maji. Watu wanabebwa na maji (We witnessed recently after the rains, the roads in the city got flooded and people drowned due to flooding).

"Kwa upande wangu nataka niamurishe waziri anayehusika kwa mambo ya barabara, wananchi wa Nairobi wamechoka (On my part I want to order the CS in-charge of roads, residents of Nairobi are tired).
"Na ata wewe Governor Sonko unajua ya kwamba tuliahidi wananchi wa Nairobi wakitupea nafasi ya kuongoza tutabadilisha maisha yao (Governor Sonko you are aware that we promised to improve the lives of Kenyans if they gave us a chance to lead)," he stated.
Uhuru directed CS Macharia to work with Sonko to ensure that the issue is resolved immediately so that Kenyans will not experience a similar scenario in the future.
"We cannot continue like this year after year," he declared ordering CS Macharia to work closely with the county government on the city's drainage system.
"Na hiyo ni kazi yako Macharia mkiwa mmeungana na Sonko kulingana na ahadi zetu kwa wananchi wa jiji hili letu la Nairobi (CS Macharia that is your responsibility in conjuction with Sonko)," he concluded.
Speaking during the launch and commissioning of Ngong Road dual-carriage, the president expressed disappointment with poor road maintenance in the city.
