NASA Leader Raila Odinga Announces Way Forward on Wetangula's Fate

NASA leader Raila Odinga on Thursday afternoon moved to address the growing discord between a section of NASA Senators and Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula that resulted in his removal as Senate Minority leader.

The move, executed on Tuesday, saw Wetangula, who is also Bungoma Senator and NASA co-principal, replaced with Siaya Senator James Orengo.

Speaking to members of the press, however, Odinga revealed that they had held a fruitful meeting with Wetangula, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and NASA Senators and resolved to find a solution to the existing impasse.

The NASA principal noted that the senators will go on a retreat to discuss the issues and compile a report to be submitted within 14 days.

He further added that Wetangula also spoke about several matters during the meeting that will be part of the agenda for discussion at the retreat.

Raila also commented on the pact between himself and President Uhuru Kenyatta with the aim of quelling growing speculations over the involvement (or lack of it) of other leaders in the NASA coalition.

"Members of the NASA summit have endorsed 100% the MoU between President Uhuru and the People's President Raila Odinga.

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who is one of the four leaders of NASA further assured Kenyans that the coalition was intact rubbishing media reports of an impending disintegration.

"One of the things that has come out today is the unity of NASA," noted Musyoka.

ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi was conspicuously absent from the meeting. Kalonzo, however, moved to explain that he (Mudavadi) was held up in other board meetings.

Mudavadi had on Tuesday termed the move to oust Wetangula as Senate Minority leader as an attempt to intimidate him with Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa threatening drastic repercussions against Wetangula.

Wamalwa further argued that ODM was trying to sideline other affiliate parties by taking up all positions reserved for the Opposition both in Parliament and the Senate.

Raila has been accused of betrayal by his co-principals for sidelining them in dialogue talks between him and President Kenyatta.
