Several Killed in Road Accident Along Tenges-Eldama-Ravine Road in Baringo

Five people were killed and several others injured in a grisly road accident that occurred on the Tenges-Eldama-Ravine road in Baringo County.

Confirming the incident, Kabarnet OCS Gabriel Mulei disclosed that investigations into the accident were still ongoing.

"It is true we found four bodies at the scene including for the driver of the written off matatu. We, however, we cannot confirm whether the accident was as a result of failed breaks because the driver did not survive," he told journalists.

Eyewitness reports indicate that the crash was as a result of the driver of an Equator Sacco matatu losing control of the vehicle.

The matatu is reported to have been driven over the speed limit causing it to veer off the road and roll several times.

The driver of the matatu died together with 2 of the passengers who also died on the spot while another passed away on the way to the hospital.

Medical assistance was accorded to the survivors as they were transported to the County Referral hospital in Kabarnet town for treatment.

The hospital's Medical Superintendent Stephen Kalya explained that the survivors were in a stable condition.

"Some of them had hand and leg fractures while others had head and chest injuries, but they are all out of danger," he stated.

Earlier on Saturday, one person was killed during a head-on collision between a lorry and a bus at the Pangani Interchange in Nairobi.

The driver of the lorry died on the spot. The bus driver survived with injuries on his legs as it was lodged in the dashboard following the impact.
