Matiang'i Accuses Judiciary of Frustrating Government Efforts

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has pointed an accusing finger at three groups of people who are deliberately frustrating the government.

Speaking at Continental House while honouring a summon to clarify the deportation of Miguna Miguna, the CS stated that officials of the judiciary, activist lawyers and members of the civil society are working against the government.

"There is a certain clique of judicial officers who have gotten into 'unholy relationship' with a clique of Opposition activists to derail the government.

"It is like there is a race on which judicial officer will injunct the government, and the higher the officer may be the better.

"One civil society member gets 30 exparte orders in a month. Even if he goes to Court asking for all CS's to commit suicide, the orders will be granted.

"It is the case of collusion between activist lawyers, judicial officers and elements in civil society to drag us," he remarked.

Matiang'i was also grilled about the transfer of Kenya Airport Police Unit (KAPU) commandant Phillip Ndolo following the Miguna saga but played down talk that action was taken after the officer mishandled the deportation

"The transfer of Mr Ndolo had nothing to do with the Miguna issue. It was normal transfers for senior officers who have served in one station for several years," he stated.

The CS further clarified that he was not aware whether the troubled lawyer was poisoned at JKIA, saying there was a lot of misreporting on the matter.

"I don't whether Miguna was drugged. I am not aware. I can't respond to that question because I don't know. Lots of lies are being told about this Miguna issue," he added.
