Cabinet Secretaries Set to Testify Against Fraudster Wazir Chacha

Several Cabinet Secretaries and Members of Parliament who fell victim to extortionist Wazir Benson Masubo are expected to record statements and testify against him.

Masubo who is known as Wazir Chacha allegedly solicited money from the CSs and legislators disguised as a female legislator.

On Tuesday a Nairobi granted Chief Inspector John Kipruto, the investigating officer, four days to complete investigations before charging Chacha.

Kipruto, a senior Directorate of Criminal Investigations detective at the National Assembly stated: “I require more time to complete my investigations  to enable me to recover other exhibits needed in this matter.”

He told Senior Principal Magistrate Christine Njagi he was investigating the 25-year-old Chacha for conspiracy to defraud, obtaining money by false pretence,  intent to defraud and impersonating a civil servant.

The senior DCI detective told the court that Chacha was arrested in Tanzania while allegedly attempting to escape to the Democratic Republic of  Congo.

However, Chacha's lawyer Job Ngeresa, opposed the application, arguing the detective should have finished his investigations during the three days his client was held in custody.

Ngeresa told the court that his client’s brothers and other relatives informed him that Masubo suffers from a mental disorder and has been in and out of hospital.

He further urged Senior Principle Magistrate Njagi to released Chacha on bond, and that he be taken to Mathari Hospital for psychiatric assessment.
