Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko Claims Interior PS Karanja Kibicho is Threatening Him

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Monday named Interior Ministry PS Karanja Kibicho as one of the senior government officials he claims is threatening him.

Speaking during an interview on Kameme FM, the Nairobi governor stated that Senior civil servants who served during President Mwai Kibaki's term were working to undermine him.

He alleged that he was threatening him to select a certain person for the position of the Deputy Governor.

"The deputy governor will be a Kikuyu because they have a larger population that supported me. Let me choose the Kikuyu I want, a technocrat, a professional, an elite and not the one Karanja Kibicho wants.

"He has no powers to intimidate me, he should concentrate on the work he was appointed to do by the President.

"When I refuse, he sends me a message intimidating me on small issues such as why my vehicle has a Kenyan flag and he threatens me," Sonko lamented.

He stated that he would consult with President Uhuru Kenyatta and DP Ruto before selecting a deputy governor.

The Nairobi Governor addressed the claims he made that a section of Mount Kenya leaders was plotting to betray Deputy president William Ruto stating that the media misquoted him.

He further warned Murang'a Women representative Sabina Chege against blaming him for her being linked to parliament conman Wazir Chacha.

"Sabina Chege awachane na mimi (Sabina Chege should leave me alone). The link between her and Wazir Chacha was made by DCI Kinoti, not me," he explained.
