A Diplomatic Police Unit Commandant on Monday drowned when his car was swept away by a flooded river on Sultan Hamud-Kasikeu road in Makueni County.
The officer, Charles Kyale Mwau, and his brother are reported to have died when they tried to cross the river at Kwa Kaluku river bridge.

Their bodies were on Monday airlifted to a mortuary in Nairobi.
Earlier in March, heavy rains that had been pounding the county led to the death of three people in Nairobi.
The bodies were found at the Kamulu bridge along Kangundo road.
The heavy rains also led to the closure of Mombasa Road after a bridge at Stoni Athi area was washed away causing traffic stretching tens of kilometers.
Elsewhere, five people were killed after they were swept away by flash floods in Mwingi East Constituency, Kitui County.
Reports indicated that the five were on a lorry transporting charcoal before being washed away by floods.
Mwingi Central police boss John Nyamu urged residents to avoid crossing rivers when it is raining. He further asked residents to be careful when water levels rise.
