Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jr in Trouble After Tweet on Moi

Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jr found himself in trouble on Saturday after his tweet on former President Daniel Arap Moi rubbed some people the wrong way.

Kilonzo praised Moi for his peaceful handover in 2002 but the senator was reminded of the dark days of the former President's era by activist Boniface Mwangi.

"Former President Moi should be honoured for his service to the Nation & his decision to peacefully hand over power after the 2002 elections amid the loud chorus “Yote yawezekana Bila Moi," wrote the Senator.

Mwangi swiftly responded by stating that his (Mutula's) father was made rich by Moi who had oppressed many people.

"We understand he was your dad’s client and that is how your father became very rich. Moi was a dictator who had people tortured, jailed and some killed.

"He introduced tribal clashes, looted and almost made Kenya collapse. You @SenMutula can honour him in your house," wrote the activist.

National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga on Thursday paid Moi a visit at his Kabarak home.

A photo emerged on social media platforms of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader and the former commander-in-chief.

Speaking on the visit, ODM Party noted: "The two leaders consulted on the current state of political affairs in the Nation."

National Assembly Majority leader Aden Duale was, however, quick to dismiss the visit saying those present should not expect much from the gesture.

The Garissa Township Member of Parliament (MP) told off the leaders whom he deemed to have been "excited" at the opportunity.

Mr Duale cautioned the leaders to note that the visit had only been made possible because Odinga struck a deal with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

"Congratulations but this should not excite you," Duale noted as he spoke in Parliament.
