KWS Ranger Act of Kindness Towards Disabled High School Girl Excites Kenyans

A Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) ranger has touched the hearts of many Kenyans on social media after his act of kindness towards a disabled high school student went viral.

The ranger identified as Philip Wesa carried Deborah Nyaboke, a student who is disabled, on his back in the hilly Aberdare National park to help her view the Chania Falls.

Pictures of an excited Nyaboke made rounds on social media and Kenyans applauded Ranger Wesa for his selfless act.

Nyaboke is noted to have been left on their school bus as other students and teachers climbed the Aberdares.

Her plight touched ranger Wesa who decided to carry Nyaboke on his back while hoisting his gun and helped the student enjoy the view of Chania falls.

Kenyans on Facebook shared the post asking his boss to recognise the ranger for his sacrifice.

Others took the opportunity to call on schools to stop this kind of discrimination to students who are disabled.

The Education Ministry was also challenged to step in and do more for students living with disabilities.

In 2017, however, the ministry launched a ‘Niko Fiti’ programme to carter for persons living with disabilities (PWDs) in secondary schools which was aimed at the modification of school facilities to ensure easy access, mobility and integration of students with various disabilities in various institutions.

The programme was also aimed at being involved in the construction of ramps around school compounds; provision of wheelchairs and spectacles for visually impaired students.
