Nelson Havi Advises Chebukati How to Get Back His Security

High Court Advocate Nelson Havi on Wednesday advised Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati on what to do to get his security back following their withdrawal by the state on Tuesday.

Posting on his Twitter page, the lawyer stated: "IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati and his embattled Commissioners should go to Court for their security to be restored by IG Boinnet and CS Matiang’i."

Havi, however, wondered why Chebukati was not taking action against the parties involved as though he was not in the country.

"Why are they crying kijinga kijinga (stupidly) as if they are abroad?" the former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) presidential aspirant exclaimed.

His comments come in a wake of chaos that have shaken the commission following the resignation of three commissioners; Vice Chair Consolata Maina, Commissioners Margaret Mwachanya and Paul Kurgat.

On Tuesday evening, IEBC Communications Manager, Andrew Limo, issued a statement outlining that the security personnel including armed drivers were taken away from the chairman, commissioner Boya Molu, and Prof Ayub Guliyeon

"The withdrawal of security is likely to put the Chairman and the Commissioners at risk.

"The action undermines the effectiveness in executing the work of the Commission," the statement read in part.

IEBC has since noted that it has written to the IG Boinnet questioning the reasons for the withdrawal of the commissioners' security guards.

However, politicians across the political divide have directed the three remaining commissioners to also resign like their colleagues.
