Landslide Kills 4, Leaves Several Injured in Murang'a

4 people have been confirmed dead and several others are nursing severe injuries after a landslide swept through parts of Murarandia in Murang'a County.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, the county's director of communication Mwangi Macharia stated that around 25 families were affected but evacuation processes are underway.

"Our disaster management team is on the ground offering help to those affected. We are offering them food, access to health facilities and clothing at the moment.

"Rescue plans are ongoing and we have moved the affected families to safer zones. The landslide mostly affected Inoi village but we have the situation under control," he remarked.

This comes just a day after, Majority Leader Aden Duale vowed to take legal action against KENGEN for the recent floods experienced in parts of Mandera County.

The legislator lamented the huge destruction caused by the floods and approximated the damage to be around Ksh 5 Billion.

"The flooding has resulted from @KenGenKenya hydro dams releasing excess water downstream causing death and destruction to farms and properties including schools.

"We shall take legal action against Kengen and sue it over 5 billion for damages," he remarked.

Last week, the Meteorological Department warned that heavy rains will continue until June adding that water levels have surpassed their initial projections.

Regions that will experience enhanced rainfall characterised by heavy storms include Western, North-western, Central and parts of South-eastern.

“The winds have brought excess moisture from the ocean and the rains have continued to pound most parts of the country,” stated Ali Ramtu, Uasin Gishu County director of Met Services.
