IEBC Refutes Claims of Sending Suspended Chiloba's Staff on Leave

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission on Saturday responded to claims of sending staff serving in suspended CEO Ezra Chiloba's office on leave.

Through their social media, the electoral body refuted claims that the staff members had been sent home to pave way for investigations to be carried out.

"The staff working at the CEO's office have not been sent on leave. They were assigned new duties or if they took leave, they did so on their on their own volition, utilizing their leave days," the commission stated.

Reports on Friday indicated that staff in the commission who are attached to CEO Ezra Chiloba were forced to take leave on Friday.

According to the Star, the five include two personal assistants, two secretaries, and an office assistant.

Sources had indicated that the move came after the IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati feared that they may end up leaking crucial information to their now suspended boss - Chiloba.

Leaking of such information was likely to jeopardize ongoing investigations in which the Chiloba is accused of overseeing the procurement process which was marred by irregularities.

Chiloba who was sent on a compulsory leave three weeks ago termed the move as a witchhunt.

"Why would anyone take differences between me and the commission to staff or the secretariat?" Chiloba lamented.

Chiloba's who was in charge of secretariat operations has been temporarily replaced by the deputy CEO Hussein Marjan who has his own office staff.
