Tiaty MP William Kamket Accuses DP Ruto of Breaching Protocol With Kabarak Visit

Deputy President William Ruto was on Friday warned that a breach of protocol during his visit to former President Daniel Moi caused him to be snubbed by the ex-president's handlers.

Tiaty Member of Parliament William Kamket accused the DP of poor coordination between his office and the Office of the Retired President in facilitating the visit.

"A person of the stature of DP going to see the retired president is a very serious matter. The two gentlemen are not ordinary Kenyans; I thought it was cheeky for Ruto to sneak in and try to make political capital," he explained.

The MP further suggested that the DP had intended to create an impression that Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, son to the former president, had barred the delegation from meeting with the ex-commander-in-chief.

"There is malice in this matter. The intention was not to see retired President, the intention was to go there and pass this false narrative that Senator Gideon Moi is trying to block him.

"I do not believe that the Deputy President is so gullible to believe that someone like (William) Chepkut or (Charles) Keter would book an appointment for him.

"The narrative that he wants to sell is that his competitor for 2022 is the one blocking him from seeing his father, which is not true, Gideon Moi is not a gateman at Kabarak. This thing started two weeks ago in Kapkatet when Senator Murkomen mentioned that DP was being blocked from meeting the former president," the MP remarked.

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei, however, defended the DP explaining that arrangements had been made prior to his visit.

"When Ruto’s plane landed in Kabarak, Mzee Moi was basking in the sun and he almost fell as he was being wheeled back into the house.

"They also unhooked Moi’s phones so he couldn’t be reached," Cherargei narrated.

Kenyans.co.ke got in touch with DP Ruto's spokesman David Mugonyi who was adamant that the visit was meant to be a private one and that there were no two sides to the story.
