Kalonzo Musyoka Asks Uhuru to Revisit Case on "Pangani 6"

Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Friday asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to revisit the matter concerning the "Pangani 6" who were charged with hate speech.

The Opposition leader asked the president and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga to dismiss the charges brought against the Pangani six as a show of goodwill.

"As a show of goodwill, all those pending criminal prosecutions against politicians, and particularly concerning the Pangani Six, should be dropped and a nolle prosequi entered," Kalonzo stated.

The Pangani six were former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama, MP Junet Mohamed (Suna East), Timothy Bosire (former Kitutu Masaba MP), Moses Kuria (Gatundu South MP), Kimani Ngunjiri (Bahati MP), Ferdinand Waititu (former Kabete MP).

Mr Musyoka further endorsed a proposal put forward by ODM party leader Raila Odinga to have a three-tier government system.

The Wiper party leader explained that the handshake between President Kenyatta and Mr Odinga had created a perfect atmosphere for a constitutional referendum.

"We need to have a serious re-look at the Constitution. The amendment of the Constitution is the all-important thing now, this should be a moment to advance the unity, peace and development of the country," he stated.

Musyoka was speaking in Naivasha where he delivered a keynote address as he officially opened a two-day retreat for the National Executive Council and the Parliamentary Group.

Musyoka argued that a constitutional referendum based on the Bomas draft would ensure equity and regional balance.

Critics have suggested that the proponents of a referendum were out to create a Prime Minister's position for either President Kenyatta after 2022 or Mr Odinga.
