Turkana Leaders Want CS Fred Matiang'i Removed

Turkana leaders now want Interior CS Fred Matiang'i removed from security docket over the frequent killings in Kapedo.

During a presser at Parliament, the MPs, Christopher Nakuleu (Turkana North), Lodepe Nakara (Turkana Central) and  Lokari Ali (Turkana East) accused the Cabinet Secretary of failing in his job.

"CS Matiang'i has failed in ensuring there is security in Kapedo and the recent killings should warrant his removal from the Ministry," the MPs stated.

The legislators further attributed the insecurity in Kapedo to mineral resources found in the region.

They accused Baringo Senator Gideon Moi of fueling tensions in the area giving the KANU leader and Baringo Governor John Lonyangapuo a one-week ultimatum to declare their interests in the area.

The MPs stated that Tiaty MP William Kamket was fueling tribal war along the Baringo-Turkana border.

Earlier in May, four people who were travelling from Kapedo to Marigat were shot dead by armed bandits during an ambush.

At the time, reports indicated that several other people were missing following the bandit attack in Kapedo allegedly a short distance from the Chesetet Military Camp.

Security personnel were deployed to the area to pursue the killers.

Hours after the attack, the residents of Marigat took to the streets demanding an immediate action from the government.

The attackers were suspected to be armed Pokot bandits who have conducted other surprise attacks in the past.
