Sonko's Security Withdrawn

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has strongly condemned the withdrawal of security officers assigned to him, revealing that a top government official is fighting him.

Speaking to Kenyans.co,ke, a communications officer attached to the governor confirmed that Sonko's security had been reduced to only three officers, in what he termed as a sinister motive.

"Yes, I can confirm that he only has three officers at his disposal. This is because the governor has sealed all loopholes of corruption and serial looters now want to bring him down.

"Sonko has been working day and night to ensure Nairobi reclaims its past glory but some government officials are not happy.

"I can confirm that a top official is hunting down the governor but we will not relent," he remarked.

When asked whether the governor would hire his own security personnel, the officer did not go into the details but hinted that they had the situation covered.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i on Wednesday announced a move to scale down the level of VIP's protection by a half.

Governors and their deputies, cabinet ministers, MPs and Senators are set to lose half of their armed bodyguards in a new move aimed at scaling down the level of protection.

Some governors are reported to have been driving with up to ten bodyguards contrary to the four guards attached to their residences- two daytime and two at night.

A memo sent to all police commanders read: “As a matter of urgency, please confirm the number of officers within your divisional area who are currently attached as escort or bodyguard of governors.

"Please treat this as urgent.”
