The mysterious man also skipped the requiem mass held on Wednesday for the victims of the tragic incident under unknown circumstances.

The police on Thursday had complained that Mr Patel had stayed in the country for two days and was yet to record a statement with them.

"The owner of the dam should record a statement. We have been expecting him to do so immediately he arrived but he has not. We will ensure he complies," detectives who spoke to The Standard claimed.

The police required the owner's statement following a directive from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji to investigate the matter.

Officers who divulged details of the investigations conveyed that 30 people had already recorded their statements with law enforcers.

Those who had already spoken to the police include eight managers of Patel Farm and Government officials, National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) and Water Resource Management Authority (WARMA) bosses.
