President Uhuru's Handshake Catches Woman by Surprise at Solai Memorial Service

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday greeted a woman during the Solai memorial service - an act that caught the woman by surprise.

From her reaction, the woman was clearly shocked that she had a casual handshake with the Head of State.

During the service held at the local AIC Church grounds, the President shook hands with another lady and directed her to sit next to him.

"We must acknowledge that we need to work together to solve this problem. We as Kenyans must conserve the environment to avoid such disasters. It is the responsibility of Kenyan to plant trees to mitigate climate change," he stated.

There was a sombre mood during the service as relatives who lost their loved ones during the Solia dam tragedy mourned.

47 people lost their lives after the dam walls collapsed earlier in May.

The owner Solai Group Chairman Mansukh Patel on Tuesday published his official statement registering his condolences and those of his family to the families of those who lost their lives.

"We, the Patel family of Solai and members of the Patel farm management would like to express our deepest condolences.

"We are currently investigating how this could have happened and deeply regret the occurrence," the statement read in part.
