Police Arrest Three Men Terrorizing Passengers Along Thika Road

Police on Wednesday arrested three men who are believed to be part of a gang that has been robbing passengers along the Thika Super Highway.

The three: a driver, his tout and their accomplice were intercepted at Waki stage in Ruiru by police who were acting on a tip-off.

According to reports, a bag stashed in the matatu had several ID cards, SIM cards and about 40 phones.

Several users of the busy highway had complained of a surge in criminal activities and had accused matatu operators of colluding with criminals.

Victims of robbery incidents along that route have been asked to come forward and identify items that were stolen from them as well as record statements with the police.

The three suspects are being held in police custody as investigations continue before they are charged in Thika Court.

In January, it emerged that robbers posing as matatu crew were stealing valuables from passengers and later forcing them out of the vehicles along Thika Road.

Another trick used was a carefully planned out act by smartly dressed women.

One victim who spoke to Kenyans.co.ke revealed that she was waiting to board a matatu during rush hour when a smartly dressed lady dropped her handbag.

In the ensuing commotion, several mobile phones were stolen and passengers were left confused as the women who often worked in groups of three were nowhere to be seen.

In April, a policeman was shot dead when a Neo Kenya Mpya bus he was travelling in was hijacked along the same road.
