DCI Submits 10 NYS Investigations Files to ODPP for Prosecution

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) on Sunday morning confirmed receipt of ten files in relation to the ongoing investigations at the National Youth Service (NYS).

In a series of tweets on their official social media handle, the Noordin Haji-led team stated that they the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had submitted the files to permit review and prosecution of the same.

"A team of experienced prosecutors led by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) is currently undertaking a final review of the files.

"The files submitted by DCI to ODPP is phase 1 of the investigations," read the tweets.

DPP Haji expressed his appreciation to the efforts and dedication of the Multi-Agency Task Force team "in ensuring expeditious and thorough investigations."

When one user sought to find out why the office was burning the midnight oil, they responded with: "We have to, the Kenyan taxpayer deserves and desires total undivided dedication."

Earlier last week, the DPP outlined his plan to renew the fight against corruption especially in light of the Sh9 Billion National Youth Service (NYS) scandal.

Answering various questions from Kenyans in the Nation, Haji listed a raft of measures his office was taking to combat the vice.

"We have cases pending against Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, parastatal chiefs, MPs, governors and senior county officials.  I shall rededicate and reinvigorate the effort against corruption and all economic crimes," he promised.

He revealed that on the NYS scandal, his office was working to ensure only cases that merit prosecution made it to court.

Haji further maintained that his office would appeal the ruling on a previous NYS scandal that saw all those accused of stealing public funds acquitted.

"The court may have found the accused not guilty but my office has appealed against the judgement. I will employ a multi-agency approach and only cases which merit prosecution will be taken to court.
