Reports have revealed how the 19 people suspected to have played a role in the loss of funds at the National Youth Service (NYS) tried to play tricks and avoid arrests by police.
However, the long arm of the law did not disappoint as the raids in the homes of the suspects was conducted by three units of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
Detectives from the Flying Squad and Special Crimes Prevention Unit were deployed on Sunday night to hunt down NYS and state officials for being accomplices in the rip-off.
Four teams went for the Nairobi suspects, relying on their phone signals and intelligence to locate them on Sunday evening while another team was dispatched to Naivasha where they picked members of the Ngirita family, suspected to have also been involved in the fraud.

Officers who were deployed at 8.30pm had to spend the whole night at the gates of some of the suspects including Public Service Principal Secretary Lilian Omollo who refused to open the gate.
NYS Director-General Richard Ndubai, who was already asleep, was informed of his visitors and at first, he declined to come out of his bedroom, leave alone open the main door to his house.
His efforts to reach top government officials to inquire about his arrest went answered and after a short while, he gave up and accompanied the police who took him to Gigiri station and booked him.
Additionally, in the same leafy suburb, another team of officers from the Flying Squad raided the home of Sam Michuki, the former acting director general, who is alleged to have been in charge when the illegal transactions happened.
AP guards at the gates temporarily blocked the officers from accessing the compound but gave in to their colleagues from the DCI after a brief standoff.
Michuki questioned the police on their mission and allegedly threatened to call top government officials but later, he agreed to accompany them and was taken to Muthaiga police where he was locked up at around 1.15am.

Another team of officers gained access to the palatial home of businessman James Thuta Nderitu at Muthaiga North estate who was wanted alongside Yvonne Wanjiku Ngugi for allegedly pocketing Ksh115 million of NYS money.
