Details have emerged on the role of the Ann Ngirita family in the Ksh9 billion National Youth Service (NYS) scandal.

Two members of the family were on Tuesday charged in court, with one of them allegedly receiving Ksh60 million.

Members of the family, in general, received Ksh300 Million of the NYS loot.

Documents revealed that the family members were arrested from their Lakeview estate in Naivasha on Monday morning.

Three of their vehicles, including a Toyota Land Cruiser V8, were confiscated by officers from the Flying Squad and the Special Crimes Investigations Unit on Tuesday.

Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives disclosed that the tender for 30-year old Ngirita had been authorised by an NYS procurement officer.

They further revealed that according to the original document, Ms Ngirita was supposed to supply foodstuff, stationery, hammers and firewood.

The second phase of the crackdown that followed the scandal is ongoing with only 19 of the 54 suspects having been arraigned in court.

Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji revealed that the operation was aimed at recovering more stolen taxpayer funds.

Those that have not yet been apprehended include Mr Nicholas Ahere, a senior deputy director at NYS; Mr Wellington Lubira, the acting director of finance; Mr Evans Kundu, who was in charge of the Mechanical and Transport department; Mr Clement Murage, a former chief accountant at NYS, and Mr Peter Maema.

They are accused of receiving fraudulent payment vouchers and signing them.
