Gideon Moi Given Eviction Notice by County Assembly

Baringo County Assembly has given Senator Gideon Moi a month to vacate office at the County Headquarters.

The announcement made on Tuesday stated that the Senator should move out to allow the refurbishment of the Speaker's office.

In March this year, Ward Representatives clashed over moving Senator Moi’s liaison office from the assembly premises in Kabarnet town.

MCAs allied to the Jubilee Party had argued that the office was dormant and illegally placed in the assembly building.

The assembly chief whip Reuben Chepsongol stated that the government had allocated senators cash to rent their independent liaison offices in their respective counties and questioned why Senator Moi had refused to move.

Chepsongol maintained that the House committee chairs lacked space to create their offices, and gave Senator Moi three days to pack his things and leave the premise but that never came to pass.

However, KANU Ward Representatives protested the directive and accused Deputy President William Ruto of having a hand in the eviction.

Ameja Zelemoi, Churro-Amaya MCA and deputy speaker stated: "They will not succeed with their plans. If anything, they should go back and collect signatures from members of the public to impeach the senator than engage in sideshows."

The Ward Representative reminded the MCAs who were calling for the Senator's eviction that the assembly building did not belong to any political party to warrant Moi's eviction.

His sentiments were backed by other MCAs who are not affiliated to the Jubilee Party.
