Raila's New Plan to Push for Electoral Reforms Despite Opposition from President Kenyatta

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga has revealed that his push for electoral reforms is unstoppable.

According to National Assembly Minority leader John Mbadi, Mr Odinga's lieutenants have not lost their will in the push for constitutional amendments despite the opposition they are facing on that issue.

Speaking to Nation, Mbadi noted: " We do not want to appear to be dictating the task force, but they are of importance in our reforms agenda. "

During a press conference on Friday, the Opposition leader exclaimed that the future of constitutional amendments lies in with the task force.

"If the team says we to amend the Constitution, we will do so and no one will stop us," the former Prime Minister mentioned while in Mombasa.

However, Mbadi asserted: " We have been accused of coming to this union with a closed mind and having sinister objectives. We have eased off to give the task force time to do its work."

ODM Secretary- General Edwin Sifuna also affirmed Odinga's sentiments highlighting that in as much as the calls for a referendum are premature, a referendum will be held in the task force recommends for that action.

He also noted that in the event that Constitutional amendments will be called for, the ODM party will rise up in unison to see through the push.

"If (as captured by Mr Kenyatta and Mr Odinga), devolution must be strengthened, then the natural consequence is that the Constitution must be amended, but we want to respect institutions by giving the task force room to work."

However, Suna East MP Junet Mohamed dismissed calls for electoral reforms stating that it will hinder development progress in the country.

"What will the team talk about if we continue to push for a referendum? It has been agreed that we let the team do its work and advice the country on the way forward, " Mr Mohamed said.
