Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior Pins Down Bishop Wabukala in Senate [VIDEO]

Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior on Wednesday pinned down the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) chairman Archbishop Eliud Wabukala and his team at the Senate's floor.

Wabukala had appeared before senate's Justice and Legal Affairs Committee alongside the CEO Halakhe Waqo to speak on graft in Kenya and the EACCs achievements on the war against corruption.

A statement that he tabled on the floor on the corruption cases that the commission has handled successfully through prosecution and conviction.

However, the legislators were not pleased with Wabukala's dismal performance with Mutula Junior questioning whether the EACC secretariat deserves being in office.

"Allow me to show you why Kenyans are extremely pessimistic about your commission and think that your war is on small fish and you are allowing big fish to run away," the Makueni Senator began his address.

Quoting some of the EACC previous cases of corruption convictions, Mutula noted that the culprits were guilty of receiving bribes of Ksh3000, Ksh1500, Ksh2000, Ksh8000, Ksh10000 and presentation of false documents.

"This is the list you have given us to show that you are working. Strictly speaking, if we give it to Kenyans they will think you are not working," he concluded.

Among other things, the Senator noted that the apathy towards EACC is due to their conduct which has led to calls on disbanding the commission.

"We have better news on corruption from the media than from the commission. The newspapers will tell us about Kenya Pipeline, Ngirita, and NYS suspects," Mutula quipped.

He further posed whether it was appropriate to conclude that: "We have lost the war on corruption particularly due to EACC."

"Why has the commission not found it fit to say, can we have so and so step aside on NYS corruption. That is your responsibility. That is your work. Who is supposed to do that if you are not going to do it?" he posed.

The law that has convicted a person over a bribe of Ksh3000, how different is that from a high caliber state officer who has received a Ksh1 million bribe.

"We are extremely disappointed. What incapacity are you talking about? We are tired of corruption, it has cost this country a lot of resources roughly Ksh300 billion," Mutula stated.
