Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o Sacks Top Aide Who Threatened to Shoot Him

Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o has sacked Chief of Staff Patrick Lumumba Ouya after he threatened to shoot the county boss.

Nyong’o fired Lumumba through a termination letter issued Tuesday terming the earlier incident as gross misconduct.

"I have today terminated your appointment as Chief of Staff with effect from June 12, 2018," the county chief directed his aide to vacate office immediately.

The governor further termed Lumumba's behaviour as "unbefitting of a public officer and contrary to  Article 75 of the Constitution and Article 40 of the County Government Act."

"Please hand in all County property and equipment in his possession to the county secretary immediately," the Chief of Staff was directed.

Reports indicated that Lumumba had summoned two people attached to the governor’s security detail to his office and told them that he would shoot their boss.

The security detail however immediately passed the message to their boss who called in the police.

Kisumu County Police Commander John Kamau indicated that a search was conducted in the suspect's office but no gun was found although he is a licensed firearm holder.

After the search was conducted, Lumumba was taken to the Central Police Station in Kisumu where he was questioned and later on released with the Governor's security team also summoned to record a statement.

Lumumba is said to have made similar threats Seme ODM chairman Leonard Ochar in January 2018 and also drew out his gun at a funeral and shot in the air three years ago scaring off mourners.
