Students Among 7 Involved in Grisly Matatu Crash [PHOTOS]

Seven people including students were involved in a gruesome road accident along the Embu-Meru highway on Friday morning. 

Two matatus are reported to have crashed and rolled several times at the Gikuurii Trading Center. 

According to witnesses, one of the vehicles rammed into the other from behind after its breaks failed.

The matatus are both reported to be headed to Meru when the incident occurred and they veered off the road. 

Those injured were rushed to Runyenjes Level Five and Tenri Mission hospitals in Embu County.

Residents of the areas helped the police in recovering the vehicle from the ditch after which it was towed to Runyenjes Police Station.

On Friday, 15 people were hospitalised after a matatu hit a guardrail along Haile Sellasie Avenue in Nairobi's Central Business District (CBD).

The 14-seater matatu was reported to have been speeding when its brakes failed to cause it to ram into the rails near Agip House.

Emergency services responded to the accident vacating the severely injured to Kenyatta hospital.

The incident is reported to have resulted in heavy traffic in the area as police coordinated with St John ambulance medics to transport the injured.
