A senior journalist at Standard Media Group has been selected to join nine others drawn from various parts of the world for a fellowship program to be held in China.
KTN’s parliament Reporter Roselyne Obala has been picked to take part in the prestigious one month long Dongfang fellowship set to start this week in China. The Dongfang Fellowship program will this year absorb only ten journalist globally.
The participants will earn a visit to China’s leading digital technology and business firms Alibaba and Tencent Ltd during the program.The nine other journalists are from Fiji, Russia, Malaysia,Spain and Mongolia.

Shanghai International University and the University of International Business and Economics will together with media house, China Today conduct the training in Shanghai and Beijing.
The journalists will also get a chance to tour media houses as China’s biggest outlet The People's Daily and Xinhua News agency that has been making strides in the East African region given China’s massive investments in the Kenyan economy.
A host of professors from the school of journalism and mass communication at the University of Shanghai will guide the scholars who were selected by a team under the China Today Editor-In-Chief Zhou Shuchun.
Among those joining Ms Obala in the training is Fiji Sun editor Rosi Doviverata. Ms Rosi’s career gives a specialised focus on digital transformation of news media. Ms Obala, Rosi and the other journalists will be taken through courses on convergence reporting, use of drones in reporting, data journalism and coding techniques.
In Beijing, the professors from the University of International Business and Economics will take the selected journalists through an elaborate path to understanding the Chinese Economy and Societal practices. The coursework here will also entail learning the Business Culture of China, Development Challenges and News Market Entry dynamics.
This comes at a times China is widening its reach and increasing its investment across East African economies. This is through its financial aid on infrastructural development projects and setting up a number of manufacturing and processing industries.
Data at the Kenya Private Sector Association shows that there are at least 400 Chinese companies running business in Kenya.
