Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has for the better part of the day spent taking on Twitter trolls pushing for the #WeKnowyoursalary hashtag.
Even public figures such as Dennis Itumbi and Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi chimed in the debate.
It was however at a point when a user challenged the Jubilee Senator to show he acquired his wealth legally.
"I totally agree that no one ever became wealthy on a salary. But let’s not kid ourselves, what we want to fight is illegally acquired wealth. If you can show the legitimacy of the wealth, no one has an issue. I doubt anyone at this point is questioning the wealth of Manu Chandaria," one Kenyan noted.
In a quick rejoinder, Murkomen stated: "I have no problem with a discussion around how to fight corruption but don’t go counting people’s properties and comparing them with their salaries. That’s nonsense."

That is when Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo joined the debate faulting the senator for his dismissal of the assessment.
"Why would you say that’s nonsense, all one needs to do is say it’s not from salary but from da da da easy," he stated.
Without missing a beat, the Elgeyo Marakwet Senator lashed back: "Kwanza wewe unatafutwa. Utajibu maswali kutoka hapa mpaka Timbuktu (First of all you should be among the first persons to be questioned. You will answer questions from here to Timbuktu when that time comes)"
One user was quick to point out that the metaphor used by the senator was actually in err.
"Actually Senator, Timbuktu is used as a metaphor because it is the antipode of Fiji, which is the farthest Pacific island from San Francisco. For Kenya's case, you could have used Tijuana, Mexico which has great alliterative value for utajua haujui But please, carry on," he explained.
"Hahaha, you are funny. Will remember next time," Murkomen responded.
