MP Samuel Arama's Corruption Case Moved From Nakuru to Nairobi

Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers on Monday made a last-minute change to the case against Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama after new intelligence emerged.

The detectives transferred the legislator to Nairobi following reports that youth were planning to disrupt proceedings against him at Nakuru Court.

Appearing in court before Nairobi chief magistrate Douglas Ogoti, the MP denied the corruption charges.

The judge ruled that he remain in custody until bail ruling set for Tuesday.

Earlier on Sunday, police officers were forced to move in and disperse a group of protesters outside Railways Police Station where the MP was being held in custody.

The police were forced to act and restore calm after the protests calling for the MP's immediate release got out of hand.

MP Arama was booked at the station on Friday after being busted by EACC officials in a questionable land deal.

EACC officials explained that they had received a number of complaints from members of the public after the legislator acquired land belonging to the government.

On the other hand, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji on Sunday approved EACC to charge the MP with six counts regarding his acquisition of a plot in Nakuru municipality Block6/95.

The charges are abuse of office, conspiracy to defraud, making a document without authority, uttering a document with intent to deceive, misleading an investigator and obtaining registration of land by false pretence.

"This is as a result of investigations by the EACC after a complaint from a member of the public was received in relation to the manner in which Mr Samuel Arama acquired a plot in Nakuru municipality Block6/95," a statement from the office of the DPP read in part.

He further noted that the investigations had shown that the legislator colluded with lands office workers to carry out the scheme.
