Jubilee MPs Resolve to Punish Senator Kipchumba Murkomen for Defending Ruto

Jubilee MPs from the Rift Valley met in Parliament and resolved to remove Senate Majority leader Kipchumba Murkomen as chairman of the Rift Valley Senators and MPs Parliamentary Group.

According to reports, the lawmakers from the region called a meeting on Wednesday night to discuss Murkomen whom they termed as divisive.

The legislators stated they were unhappy with statements the Elgeyo Marakwet Senator had made about divisions between President Uhuru Kenyatta and DP William Ruto.

Notably, the MPs and Senators maintained they were upset with remarks Murkomen made during a TV interview, where he claimed the people opposed to Ruto's 2022 bid are close to the President's Office.

In a press conference, MPs Alfred Keter (Nandi Hills), Silas Teren (Moiben) and Joshua Kutuny (Cherangany) castigated Murkomen for purporting the lifestyle audit ordered by President Kenyatta was meant to undermine the DP and his quest for the presidency.

The legislators maintained there was nothing political in President Kenyatta's call for a lifestyle audit of key public officers.

Keter stated: “We support the lifestyle audit as the best way forward to get those who loot public resources telling how they get what they have.”

Murkomen also suggested the lifestyle audit was intended to destabilize leadership within the Kalenjin community but Keter told him to stop dragging the whole community into personal scuffles best addressed elsewhere.

The Nandi Hills MP argued that people who steal and loot don’t do it on behalf of their communities or families, but themselves adding that no one will be spared in the fight against corruption.

“Let nobody start lecturing us that the community is being targeted…Oooh, it is like they targeting an individual from our community. No, there no individual under attack,” Keter stated.
