No casualties were reported.

Police, who arrived at the institution, have launched an investigation to ascertain the cause of the fire.

In a statement issued to newsrooms, Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi stated that the incident was highly regrettable.

"It's a big setback to parents, students, and the entire Ugunja community, coming at a time when preparations for KCSE are at an advanced stage," Wandayi noted.

The legislator also called for calm and asked the police to carry out a thorough investigation and punish the culprits, should the incident be a case of arson.

The incident happened days after three other schools in the county have been closed indefinitely for various reasons, Ng’iya Girls', Maranda Boys' and Maliera Boys'.

Maliera was closed indefinitely earlier on Thursday after students went on strike in a demand for a bus and weekly entertainment.
