Police Officer Goes Missing as Suspected Al-Shabaab Militants Raid Police Post

A police officer remains unaccounted for after suspected Al-Shabaab militants attacked a police post in Garissa on Tuesday.

The terrorists raided Hamey Police Post located near the Kenya-Somalia border at around 2 am.

They approached from different corners and a vicious shoot-out ensued as they exchanged fire with the officers.

Four officers sustained minor injuries and are out of danger.

Garissa County Police Boss David Kerina confirmed that a search operation was underway for the missing officer.

Sources further revealed that the officers had intelligence on the impending attack and were adequately prepared.

"Four officers only got bruises. They fought hard and repulse the enemies,” Kerina stated.

The attack comes barely a week after Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) planted by Al-Shabaab militants along the border left five police officers injured.

In a separate incident on Thursday last week, four police officers sustained injuries after they were attacked by suspected militants in Garissa, Ijara Sub-County.

In response to the attacks, Mandera East MP Omar Maalim petitioned parliament seeking to have the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) withdrawn from Somalia.

In his petition, Maalim argues that the original objectives of 'Operation Linda Nchi' were no longer being achieved even as terror attacks in Kenya increased since the troops' deployment in 2011.
