The CS also announced the appointment of Peter Waweru Njenga to head the Street Lighting Department and Charles Ng’eno as the head of internal audits section at Kenya Power.

The changes come at a time former General Manager and 13 other individuals have denied charges on the irregular acquisition of faulty transformers.

“The board wishes to reassure members of the public, customers, shareholders, development partners and other stakeholders that operations of the business have not and will not be affected,” the utility board announced.

Dr. Ken Tarus who has been the company Managing Director and C.E.O surrendered himself to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters on  Sunday evening and was held at Muthaiga Police Station.

Appearing in court on Monday, Tarus, his predecessor, Ben Chumo, and the other executives pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The court adjourned the hearing to Tuesday morning at 8 am and directed that the accused persons be remanded at Gigiri Police Station awaiting the determination of their application for bail.

The Kenya Power officers are said to have committed economic crimes by fraudulently procuring transformers worth over Ksh.400 million in offenses recorded on diverse dates between August 3, 2012 and June 12, 2018.
