Kilifi Woman Rep Vows to Oversee Banning of Tahidi High

A Member of Parliament vowed to personally oversee the banning of popular tv show Tahidi High.

Kilifi Woman Representative Gertrude Mbeyu demanded that the government bans Tahidi High for what she termed as promoting immorality and unrest among students.

Mbeyu argued that Tahidi High which airs every Tuesday on a Citizen TV, had themes which she did not support as a parent and a leader.

“The program is really messing up our students who are watching this program; they imitate what ‘Tahidi High’ is showing in our TV and they will not go far as they learn what the program is showing,” Mbeyu stated.

She made the remarks at Barani Secondary School in Malindi during the Education Day hosted by area MP Aisha Jumwa. The event was graced by Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang.

Mbeyu further challenged PS Kipsang to go watch last Tuesday’s episode of ‘Tahidi High’ to see for himself how the program is misleading students.

She promised to move a motion in Parliament and have the program banned from television.

In January this year, Citizen TV was on the receiving end after Kenyans on social media agreed with Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) CEO Ezekiel Mutua about their show 10Over10 which they termed as indecent.

Mutua termed the show as one of the most obscene shows ever to be aired on the mainstream media in Kenya where young boys and girls are paraded in a diabolical show of scatology, engulfed in smoke, amidst blaring and deafening noise.

Either way, the law stipulates that all Kenyan broadcasters must ensure that 40 percent of their content is locally produced.
