Kenyans on Thursday widely searched "Mr Bean" after a computer virus scam was exposed by international media.

In the scam, funnyman Rowan Atkinson who plays the Mr Bean character was reported to be dead and as soon as internet users clicked on the notification their computers would be infected.

Keen netizens would, however, be able to notice a discrepancy on the date indicated on the post to be wrong.

"Idiot" also topped Kenya's Google trending topics on Thursday with over 1,000 searches gained throughout the day.

The topic trended as computer code savvy individuals manipulated the Google algorithm to cause images of United States (US) President Donald Trump to appear when the term is googled.

Other topics which trended on Google searches for the day are "Akothee" and "Cyprian Awiti", Homa Bay Governor whose election stood nullified after the judgement of his appeal suit was issued.

Musician Akothee trended on Google after she offered her 21-year-old daughter, Vesha Okello, the position of Director at her Akothee Safaris travel agency.

Ruth Kamande/ Miss Lang'ata/ Farid Mohammed

The three topics topped Twitter trends on Thursday after Miss Lang'ata beauty queen Ruth Kamande was sentenced to death for the murder of her boyfriend Farid Mohammed.

Most netizens who shared their opinions on the matter seemed to agree with Justice Jessie Lesiit's sentence conveying that the punishment fit the crime.
