Moses Kuria's Actions During 'Mashemeji Derby' Draw Speculations

Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria has drawn speculations after showing up on Sunday for a match wearing a Gor Mahia jersey.

Photos posted by the legislator show him enjoying the Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards face off popularly known as Mashemeji derby in the company of NASA leader Raila Odinga.

Kuria who attended the event alongside Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja and veteran footballer Joe Kadenge appeared to be in high spirits as he chatted with Raila.

However, his outright support for Gor Mahia (K'Ogalo) a few hours after he received an exceptionally warm welcome in Kisumu saw netizens speculate on his renewed affection towards the Nyanza people.

The MP who is a known frenemy and often a hard critic of Raila has recently toned down his hard stance against the former Prime Minister drawing speculation on the reason behind the move.

A section of Kenyans opined that Kuria's actions are likely a reflection of the new Sasa Kieleweke call - a push to address rampant corruption in the government and dissociation from the alleged political debt by Mt Kenya region towards Deputy President William Ruto.

Speaking to the residents after his arrival and cordial welcome in Kisumu on Saturday, Kuria asserted that the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and the opposition leader Raila Odinga is not about 2022 elections but unity.

He also told off critics of the handshake and warned them against early campaigns for 2022 General Election.

Kuria termed as "unfortunate" leaders who are opposing the Building Bridges Initiative.

He stated: "The spirit of the handshake is not going anywhere and we need to do this much more. I call upon the critics to shelve early campaigns for 2022 to promote peace and tranquility in the country.

"Only a stupid man can oppose the handshake," he told Kisumu residents who mobbed him as he walked on the busy Oginga Odinga street.
