Judge Releases Cameroonian Man Accused of Identity Theft

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) raised an issue against Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi after the magistrate released a notorious criminal on bail.

The DCI sought to understand why the judge had granted the release of the Cameroonian man against an advisory that the suspect was a flight risk.

The West African man, Doctta Peter Longa, is said to have falsified his identity in court papers where he wrote his name to be Henry Wafula Kosogoji.

Andayi granted bail amounting to Ksh50,000 which the suspect paid in full at the Milimani Law Courts chief executive officer’s office, having found the bank closed at the time he was processed.

Dotta, who the DCI believes to have fled the country already, had also failed to provide the court with his original identification documents, instead offered a copy.

"What was surrendered in court is a copy of his passport and not an original passport," a senior detective at the DCI confirmed.

The foreigner was set to take a plea on Tuesday, however, the court postponed the hearing to Thursday.

According to the investigators, Dotta was deported from Kenya in 2017 after an executive order issued by the then Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery.

He. however, sneaked back into the country and had been operating scam under "false pretences". He was also accused of offering false information on his identity to the court vide Court File number 1303 of 2018.

The authorities are yet to offer the way forward as the suspect's whereabouts remain unknown.
