Mike Sonko Drives Through City in Convertible Mercedes [VIDEO]

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Saturday opted to drive himself on his way to officially launch the Kangemi recreational park in Westlands constituency.

Cruising through the city in his convertible Mercedes with the roof pulled down, Sonko interacted with residents along the road enjoying the greening efforts by his administration.

His security had a rough time ensuring his safety especially when they got to places with heavy traffic along Mombasa road.

Sonko's supporters tried to get to the county head with hawkers who spotted him trying to get a word in. His security was however on high alert and did their best to clear the way and get the hawkers away from the Governor.

When he got to Kangemi, the situation was even more hectic as the crowds lined the roads and the security detail embarked on the tedious task of clearing the way.

The enthusiastic supporters were however not perturbed by the security measures.

In his address, Sonko appealed to the private sector to partner with the county government in beautification and cleaning of the Capital City.

“I’m appealing to the private sector in Nairobi to come on board and join us in this campaign of ensuring that the Capital City is clean, beautiful and secure. We want Nairobi to maintain is the glory of being the Green City in the Sun,” Sonko stated.

At the same time, the Governor urged those in private sector, who might have encroached or have companies sitting on road reserves to immediately vacate to pave way for construction and expansion of road projects in the City.

“We have partnered with the state to ensure that our roads are fixed, but we are calling on those who have occupied public land or road reserves to immediately leave and allow us to continue with the projects without any hiccups.

“To promote good environmental practices, all recovered illegal dumpsites are being converted into either recreational grounds or beautification islands across the City. A good example is this site at Kangemi which was an illegal dump site for many years. My administration reclaimed it and converted it into an Amusement Park,” added the Governor.
